When I was in high school, I played drums.
Niel Peart, drummer for Rush, was my role model. The solo from YYZ was the drum solo par excellence. This 2007 version isn’t quite the same as the one I grew up with, but close enough for you to get the idea. (Solo starts at 3:17.)
I still love hard rock. Call it metal if you want to, but hard rock will do. My favorite Christmas song is the Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s Wizards in Winter. That or the Christmas Canon. Depends on the day you ask me.
The downside (one of them) of being a pastor for 25 years is you lose track of some of the things you love but that congregations full of octogenarians, with a few exceptions, just don’t get or approve of. Things get by you, like when the Ataris redid Boys of Summer. In case you haven’t seen it:
